Sew Mama Sew Giveway Day is here and secret cake is pleased to participate again!
This year’s giveaway (pictured above) is four fat quarters of vintage fabric and a handful of vintage buttons* from the secret cake shop.
To be eligible to win this giveaway, please leave a comment describing a craft project you’re currently working on, or hope to be working on soon. Include a link, if you like! Don't forget to include an e-mail so you can be reached if you're the winner.
For example the secret cake clan is hoping to make a few felt ornaments for teacher and hostess gifts based on this zaaka life tutorial.
The giveaway is open until December 6, and International entries are welcomed!
Winner will be chosen at random and secret cake will ship the giveaway package by December 12.
Also, be sure to visit Yume Design's giveaway for a customized, two-disc sterling silver necklace!
Good luck and have fun!
*Please note the buttons included in this picture are for informational purposes only from the secret cake inventory and may not be the handful included in the giveaway package.

I participated in the Sew, Mama, Sew May Giveaway Day and it was so much fun! Not only did the secret cake blog receive over 200 comments in response to its little giveaway package, but the secret cake Etsy shop saw a huge spike in traffic. And, more importantly, the giveaway day provided a great forum to learn about great new blogs, crafty resources and creative people in the community that I wasn't aware of before (a blessing and a curse, I suppose...)
The Sew, Mama, Sew December Giveaway Day is coming next week...woot!
Come back on December 2 when secret cake will announce its giveaway package full of vintage goodness.
Have fun!
Just found out that I'm the winner of Cabin + Cub's November giveaway!
I've been admiring Valerie's work for awhile now, and I was so pleased to finally click the purchase button on a couple of her Limited Edition prints (see above.) Perfect for the girls' rooms-- especially having just moved to Seattle, huh?
We also adore this little bird, so he may need to come live with us at some point, as well.
Please be sure to stop by Cabin & Cub's shop and its Flickr site to check out Valerie's unique and creative collages.
Right now if you buy any two same sized limited edition prints, you'll get a third same sized limited edition print free! (I suppose I'm not eligible for this deal, huh? : ) ) Or, buy any two small woodburned panels and get a third small panel of your choice free! Plus, notebooks and tote bags 50% off!
Thanks so much, Cabin + Cub!
Update: It turns out my order was eligible for the buy two get one free deal, so this sweet little bird will soon be living at the secret cake abode, as well! Happy day!

We're in the thick of it. Fall. My favorite time of year. It goes by quickly, doesn't it? Thanksgiving is around the corner, Christmas just around the bend and BAM...we're toasting to a new year.
I've enjoyed some Fall baking-- especially this pumpkin bread and this sour cream apple pie.
I've started thinking of holiday gifts, but the progress ends there. Every year I vow to start earlier so the crafting process is fun and not stressful and cumbersome. I'm getting close to the "earlier" deadline, aren't I?
Are you gifting homemade this year? What's on your holiday baking must-have list?

I am a consummate list writer. When I start to get that 'hummingbird in a shoebox' feeling, I start writing a list, and everything seems slows down and becomes more manageable. And, there's the added bonus of the great feeling of checking something off when it's complete!
I've been looking for a chore chart or to-do list for the Boo (three years-old) and the Bug (six years-old) and found these printable charts from ModEco Kids. Not only are they free, but they are customizable and the design is great!
If your kids have the same weekly chores, you may want to consider slipping the chore chart into a page protector (or laminating them) and checking the chores off with a dry-erease marker.
Thanks, ModEco Kids for this great resource!
I've gushed before about Grosgrain. Allow me to do it again. See those amazing Alice in and Queen of Hearts costumes above? She. made. them. Without a pattern. I'll give you a moment to absorb that.
Yeah. So. My girls have picked out their trusty Costco Snow White and Sleeping Beauty costumes but those would be kicked to the curb faster than you could say, "mirror mirror on the wall" if we were to win this ensemble-- which includes the Queen of Hearts dress, wig, crown, striped tights and red pettiskirt, the Alice in Wonderland dress and the awesome and slightly creepy Rabbit mask.
Spend some time looking at the photos-- they are so whimsical and magical. The details and craftsmanship are impeccable.
Click the link below for a chance to enter and win the costumes. But I hope you don't.

I have a weakness for hair accessories and necklaces. There I've said it. I'm weak.
So, when Stephanie of pandacub notified me that I was the winner of a $10 gift certificate, (woot!) I promptly scooped up this darling set of bobby pins. My daughters dig them. I dig them. They are so cute and well constructed and best of all—unique! I know that when my daughters (or I, ahem) wear them, there aren’t going to be 137 other fashionistas walking around wearing the identical pins.
Check out pandacub if you’re looking for sweet and feminine hairpins, hair bands, rings or earrings. Buy a stash! These are the perfect little tokens for hostess gifts, last minute birthday party gifts/favors, or as a thoughtful way to say thanks for a good deed.
I must confess, my daughter lost her very first tooth over the weekend and, after receiving the bobby pins in the mail, the Tooth Fairy and I conferred and I intended to slip them under her pillow. Alas, I couldn’t wait that long and tore into the package.
And my daughter had to settle for a measly $5. But, her hair sure looked cute.
Thanks, Stephanie!
